Cerebral Palsy
Lawyers for Children with Cerebral PalsyCerebral Palsy (CP) refers to a group of disorders which are caused by brain damage to the areas that control sensation, voluntary motor function, muscle control, cognition, motor development, head control, walking and crawling, coordination and balance. There are a number of symptoms which may indicate the presence of CP. Our birth injury lawyers are skilled and trained in sorting out whether or not such symptoms are the result of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy occurring during the birthing process, or, the product of other diseases or conditions which may mirror some of the symptoms found with CP. Not all cerebral palsy is caused by birth injury negligence. Indeed, it is estimated that half a million people in the United States have cerebral palsy – and not all of those cases were due to medical negligence. If your infant manifests some or all of these symptoms, you should consult with one of our cerebral palsy specialists to determine if medical negligence was the cause of your child’s problems: (1) poor motor development; (2) delay in crawling; (3) delay in walking; (4) muscle abnormalities including hyper tonicity and hypo tonicity, absence or diminished coordination and balance; (5) problems with fine motor control including picking up objects, writing, or other developmental delays; (6) seizures; (7) incontinence; (8) delayed physical development. Cerebral palsy is classified into three main types, according to the way a child’s muscular involvement and movement is impacted. Each of the three types has its own type of symptoms. |
